$202,125 in scholarships awarded by Permian Basin Area Foundation

July 23, 2009 – MIDLAND, Texas – Permian Basin Area Foundation announced $202,125 in scholarship awards at its 13th Annual Scholarship Dinner held today at the Midland County Horseshoe. Scholarships were awarded to 127 students representing communities throughout the Permian Basin region. These were made possible by countless donors to the Foundation’s 57 endowed scholarship funds. Since 1995, Permian Basin Area Foundation has provided 1,171 awards totaling more than $1.6 million.

“Thank you to the Foundation’s donors for your support in creating permanent resources for education,” said G. William Fowler, chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Governors. “Your commitment and generosity provide excellent educational opportunities for students today and for future generations of West Texans.”

John James addresses the crowd “Communities in the Permian Basin can be justifiably proud of these young men and women,” noted Guy McCrary, Foundation president and CEO. “If an organization or individuals are looking for a way to make an investment, one that pays enormous benefits for years to come, I can’t think of a better opportunity than supporting education for our youth.”
