In 2016, Permian Basin Area Foundation enriched the lives of countless West Texans thanks to the generosity of its donors. In spite of a challenging economy, the Foundation invested over $8 million through scholarships to students and grants to nonprofits in our local communities.
Grants were awarded through donor recommendations, allocations from designated and undesignated funds, and the Foundation’s semi-annual competitive grants process. Sixty-eight nonprofits, representing diverse programs and services, received $2,187,495 in competitive grants funding. Areas of service to those funded include: Education and youth, health and human services, culture and the arts, and housing and community development.
Twice annually, the Foundation accepts applications from area nonprofits for a broad variety of funding requests. The process is a labor of love with outcomes that are measured by improvements to the quality of life for residents throughout West Texas. The grants committee begins by reviewing pre-applications from each organization. Those selected are invited to submit full applications. Following more thorough and very deliberate review, grant awards are assigned based on a variety of factors. Grantees are announced at a news conference held several months after the process begins.
